About us



University Terrace, established in 1954, is a unique and vibrant East Dallas neighborhood located about eight miles from downtown.

We are conveniently situated near White Rock Lake, NorthPark Center, the Dallas Arboretum, and Flag Pole Hill.

Our neighborhood is served by the Dallas Police Department’s Northeast Division, Beat 234, and forms a triangle bordered by Wake Forrest, Middlebury, and Bucknell Drive. University Terrace is also one of only two Dallas neighborhoods with DART access within walking distance. Our low incident rate is the result of an informed and engaged community. By educating residents and encouraging crime-prevention best practices, we help keep University Terrace safe. Crime prevention starts with the basics—and it is the responsibility of every resident.



Crime Watch



Reporting Area #1109



University Terrace Crime Watch (UTCW) was created in 1998.


Since inception UTCW has had an effective Crime Watch and education is and continues to play a vital role in our continued success of crime prevention for University Terrace. Our neighborhood is located within the Dallas Police Northeast Division.

Our role is a partnership with the NE Division - Neighborhood Policing Department. We assist in the reduction of crime incidents within our reporting area #1109. Our team consists of: Chairperson who manages all aspects of the UTCW group and serves as a primary liaison to the Dallas Police Department

(NE Division) and other Dallas Crime Watch groups. Develops and maintains UTCW resources such as e-alerts and official website and neighborhood crime watch meetings. VIP (Volunteers In Patrol) are residents who patrol the neighborhood in their vehicles (Identified with magnetic sign - University Terrace Crimewatch VIP) and report incidents to police and police liaison Dallas Police NE Division - Officer Theron Akin.

This program is designed to reduce crime by having citizens patrol their own neighborhoods in their own vehicles and reporting any suspicious or criminal activity to the police by calling 911.

  • Must be a member of an established crime watch group

VIP Training





​VIP Training is conducted by Officer Theron Akin. Most training sessions are held at the Northeast Division Station, 9915 East Northwest Highway. As always, the application and RSVP will need to be submitted and prior to attending the session. The deadline to complete the application is usually a week before.
