History of UT Crime Watch
University Terrace Crime Watch (UTCW) has been in operation since 1998. Our main goal and focus has been to educate our residents and be a strong leader in safety and crime prevention within our 416 homes. Our team is comprised of block captains and co-captains who are the liaison with their block to deliver the mission of safety awareness. We have a strong connection with the Dallas Police Northeast Substation. UTCW actively participates in DPD sponsored programs such as: Quarterly Crime Summits and their Annual Safety Fair.
Specifically, we hold neighborhood meetings, maintain a website, deliver quarterly newletters, have a hotline 24/7 for any resident to contact our crime watch team and hold a Crime Watch Party in the fall.
We encourage each resident to become familiar with our program and to become an active member of our community.
University Terrace Volunteers In Patrol (UTVIP)
University Terrace Volunteers In Patrol (UTVIP) are residents who patrol our area during all hours of the day and evening. These VIPatrollers are certified by the Dallas Police Department and have completed a three day training session in crime prevention. They have clearly marked vehicles and their main goal is to establish a safety presence in our neighborhood. If you are interested in joining, contact our hotline at 214.967.5180.
Filing A Police Report:
If you have a crime to report, you may file it by calling 911. Explain that you need to file a report and they will have the police come to your home and search for evidence. Remember – if something is happening while you are calling 911, be sure to use the phrase “in progress”. This elevates the need for police response.
BMV's Prevention (Burglary of a Motor Vehicle)
- Make sure to take all items out of your car
- Ensure that your car is parked in your garage or driveway but never on the street
- Check out the lighting around your house and make sure that your driveway is always well lit
- While shopping, make sure that you are aware of your surroundings
